On September 15, 2017, the Cassini spaceprobe crashed itself into Titan, Saturn’s largest moon-ending its twenty year mission to the planet. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Not the metal, but all the people who built it, and launched it, and watched its progress every day for two decades.. They crashed it to protect Saturn from cross-contamination. I watched the engineers crying in the control room. It wasn’t just metal. It was human endeavor.
